Oulujoki River & Hartaanselkä

Hartaanselkä is the estuary area of the Oulujoki River and is one of Finland’s most famous urban fishing destinations. It is especially popular during the summer and autumn seasons when salmon and sea trout run up the river from the sea. The area is easily accessible, and the shores are filled with anglers during the bright summer nights. Fishing is strictly regulated, with rules such as alternating days for boat and shore fishing. The traditional practice of dip-netting for whitefish is also a popular tradition in October.
